What's our Why?
In June 2017, Gemma established Crosby Aviation Training Ltd with the full support of Paul Cadman, an apprenticeship expert.
After completing her GCSEs Gemma knew she wanted to travel. She had various members of her family living in Europe and had spent a number of summers there, yet didn’t have the language to venture into the European workplace. So she decided the next best thing was to work within the travel industry.
Gemma found the perfect role in the RAF as a Flight Operations Assistant. Through their structured training, she was able to increase her knowledge, skills, and behaviours to help to ensure their aircraft achieved the daily flying programme and is grateful to the RAF for proving this solid foundation.
After a couple of years, Gemma felt the best way to continue her development was in a civilian environment. So she continued to expand those skills, and worked her way to the Head of Operations for a large general aviation company before advancing to become the Operations Training Manager of a commercial airline. Whilst she was attending a UK Operations Managers tri-annual meeting, she realised the sector required someone to help develop and support their next generations of aviation professionals, thus Crosby Aviation Training Ltd was born.
By March 2019, two of Gemma’s first apprentices had already successfully completed their apprenticeship, with many more following in their footsteps.
Just a month later, Gemma was invited to The House of Parliament to be awarded the Mentor/Trainer/Coach of the year. This award recognises the exceptional development and promotion of skills within the Aviation sector. Gemma felt extremely honoured to have received such an important award.
